We Want You as a New Recruit...

...but we're not going to pay you.

That's the message that Carl Froch is being paid £1000/hour to deliver on behalf of Nottingham City Council.

Carl is trying to persuade you that becoming an 'Auxiliary' (i.e. voluntary) Community Protection Officer is a great idea and that doing so means that you are a 'champion' like him.

If anybody is thinking of taking him up on his kind offer can I please beg that you consider an alternative? Sign up as a volunteer at the Citizens Advice Bureau instead? You'll learn a lot more, do more useful things and you don't have to wear a uniform or get spat at by teenagers.

How very typical of the modern sportsperson.
Froch probably knows the price of everything but the value of nothing.
I doubt he is bright enough to see the irony in trousering a grand while asking people considerably worse off than he is to give up their time for nowt.

What can I say that I haven't already said before... on your blog and on mine...

The problem is that 'local heroes' like Froch are revered by ordinary people and this blinds them to the cynicism and irony of the con-trick being perpetrated on them by the City Council.

Perhaps JoCo and Carl could set an example by donning the CPO uniform for a few Saturday nights and patrolling the city centre or Bulwell Hall... for free.
