I'd also like to see a return to the committee system but that's just not on the table.

Like I say, the thing that's pushing me most towards having a mayor is that we already have an individual with mayor like powers and if that's what we're stuck with I'd quite like a direct vote on who s/he is.

But fair point about what that would do to individuals ambitions to be a councillor, although being a JoCo drone can hardly be that inspiring.

Not planning at looking parliamentary constituency changes, I try to keep the blog fairly tightly focused on NCC issues.Andyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03710776765139258627noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5279091405234136771.post-50092742737692621622012-03-09T12:46:24.944+00:002012-03-09T12:46:24.944+00:00The trouble with being asked to vote for a Notting...The trouble with being asked to vote for a Nottingham mayor is that we do not know what their powers will be and why, with a mayor, would anyone would want to be a city councillor? The present system of 'portfolio holders' is bad enough and I might have more sympathy with the Labour Group if they followed the example of the Tories on the County Council, who are returning to a committee system from April 2012. At present I plan to stick with the devil I know.

The mayoral debate is a diversion. Much more important is the need to create a 'Greater' Nottingham City Council with city councillors able to run 'doorstep' services in their wards (the powers exist).

PS. Are you going to look at the English Boundary Commission report on the future size and area of parliamentary constituencies in and around Nottingham and the comments they have received about their initial proposals?Roberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16299858109689461143noreply@blogger.com
